LEGISLATOR ZACH COLLINS ANNOUNCES LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGN FOR NEW THRUWAY EXIT IN COEYMANS
New Exit or Industrial Access Point Would Reduce Heavy Commercial Traffic and Enhance Quality of Life for Local Residents
COEYMANS, NY – Albany County Legislator Zach Collins (C-R, Coeymans) yesterday announced a constituent-based letter writing campaign calling on New York State to construct a new Thruway exit between exits 21b and 22. As ongoing economic development and industrial progress continues at the Pork of Coeymans, Coeymans Industrial Park, and Holcim Ravena Plant, the volume of large truck traffic has caused rising quality of life concerns for local residents.
“I am excited to announce the launch of a letter writing campaign calling on Governor Hochul and the State to construct a new Thruway exit between exits 21b and 22. Last year, I made a similar request to the Governor, and have spent the intervening months meeting and talking with local state representatives, industrial leaders and other stakeholders to solve this pressing quality of life issue along Routes 143 and 144 in Coeymans and Ravena. Unfortunately, progress on that front has slowed in recent months following announcements about local economic development – but the heavy truck traffic continues. That is why I am asking the residents of the 37th Legislative District to lend me their collective voice through our new campaign. Together, we can show New York State the urgency of this issue and hopefully have a resolution in the near future,” said Legislator Collins.
Legislator Collins last December called on New York State to construct a new thruway exit for the Port of Coeymans. In the letter to Governor Kathy Hochul, he cited increasing commercial traffic, noise and congestion, and the need to strike an appropriate balance between ongoing economic development efforts and quality of life concerns by local residents.
In a post on social media, Legislator Collins yesterday called on his neighbors to sign and send a version of a template letter he wrote calling for the new thruway exit.
The letter is attached.
