On NYS Committing $10 Million to Demolish Central Warehouse

Today’s announcement that the state is committing $10 million to tear down Central Warehouse is welcome news.

In January, shortly after black netting went up on the Central Warehouse, we were the first local elected leaders to call for the demolition of “Albany’s Greatest Eyesore,” which stimulated other state and local leaders to confirm our request. Years of developer neglect and broken promises turned what was once a symbol of industrial progress into one that represented blight and decay for the city, county and entire Capital Region. Leveling this building will create an exciting blank slate of opportunities for economic development, commuter safety and historic revitalization in our state’s Capital city.

Thank you to county and state officials for investing these critical resources to correct the decades-long mistake of Albany’s Central Warehouse. It’s a good day for the Capital Region.
