COLONIE FIRE TOWER FUNDING APPROVED; LEGISLATORS LOCKART & DRAKE VOTE ‘AYE’

At Legislative Meeting, Albany County Legislators Support Resolution for Improvements to Fire Training Facilities in Town of Colonie and Across County

ALBANY, NY – The Albany County Republican & Conservative Conference today supported a resolution providing significant new funding for improvements to fire training facilities in the Town of Colonie and across the County. The legislation, which passed unanimously in tonight’s Legislative Meeting, has been a priority for County Legislators Patty Schwarz Lockart (R-C, Colonie), Todd Drake (R-C, Latham) and the entire Conference.

County Legislator Lockart, whose district is in the Village of Colonie, said, “The passing of this resolution indicates our support and immense gratitude for the bravery and heroism of volunteers at Colonie Fire Company, and across our Village, Town and County. We are exceedingly proud to have such courageous men and women protecting our residents. This investment will help the next generation of firefighters safeguard our communities.”

“The Boght Community Fire District, Verdoy Volunteer Fire Department, and all our other County wide firefighters have dedicated themselves to our local communities. This resolution is not just a small show of thanks for their work, volunteerism, and bravery; it’s a real investment in their future. These men and women deserve our support. Our County’s financial commitment will help them prepare for service,” said County Legislator Drake.

Tonight’s resolution includes a $300,000 appropriation for upgrades to the Town of Colonie’s fire training facility on Wade Road.  It is used by Colonie police and EMS, and fire departments in Boght, Colonie (village), Fuller Rd, Latham, Maplewood, Menands, Midway, Schuyler Heights, Shaker Road-Loudonville, Stanford Heights, Verdoy, West Albany, and the City of Albany. This critical financial support by the County will help complete much-needed upgrades to ensure personnel are well prepared for their duties, as well as to assist in recruitment and retention of our volunteer firefighters.
