ALBANY COUNTY LEGISLATORS ASK FOR PUBLIC’S HELP IN FEEDING FAMILIES THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

Local Lawmakers Donate Food & Personal Items to Raise Awareness on Food Insecurity

ALBANY, NY – Albany County Legislators in the months of November and December are asking for the public’s help in feeding our local community. Several lawmakers have donated food and personal items to pantries and participated in Albany County’s ongoing drive, raising awareness on food insecurity issues in our local communities.

“This Holiday season, no family should have to choose between putting food on the table or buying presents for their children. I thank my colleagues for pooling their resources to deliver contributions that will help alleviate food insecurity in Albany County. We hope these efforts will encourage the public to do what they can and ensure struggling residents are fed on Thanksgiving and beyond,” said Minority Leader Frank A. Mauriello (R-C, Colonie).

Recent food and personal item donations by local lawmakers have been made at the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, Shaker Place Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, and the Altamont Free Library.

Albany County is hosting an ongoing food and supply drive in the wake of uncertainty surrounding SNAP benefits, with collection bins located in all Albany County buildings (more information attached in flyer). Additionally, the Legislature this month unanimously approved $750,000 for the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York and United Way of the Greater Capital Region to deliver emergency food resources to eligible County residents.
