Albany County Republican & Conservative Conference Agenda

12/2/24

STATEMENT FROM ALBANY COUNTY LEGISLATOR FRANK MAURIELLO

On Adoption of 2025 County Budget

11 straight years of cutting the County property tax rate is a significant accomplishment worth touting in this year’s budget. Continued investment in infrastructure, economic development, childcare, elder care and our fight against the mental health and addiction crisis is also good news.

However, the process to adopt our County’s nearly one billion dollar spending plan has proven once again to be sorely lacking in adequate oversight or scrutiny. The fact that our Conference received the final figures on such short notice at recent Committees speaks volumes about the serious lack of transparency in our government.

In this year’s election, voters across our state and country stated clear dissatisfaction with the direction current leaders were taking us. We as elected officials are obligated to listen to our constituents and govern according to their wishes.

Budgets are about priorities. My colleagues and I voted for this budget because it puts more money back into the hands of everyday residents. We have made important strides in many areas, but we must always strive to do better for the people we represent.
