ALBANY COUNTY LEGISLATORS ANNOUNCE 5-POINT PLAN TO INCREASE GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY

CORGI (Coordinate On Removing Gov’t Inefficiency) Agenda Includes Proposals to Curb Increased Taxes, Improve Operations & Enhance Services for County Residents

ALBANY, NY – Republican and Conservative Members of the Albany County Legislature today announced a 5-point plan to increase government efficiency and protect local taxpayers. The CORGI (Coordinate on Removing Government Inefficiency) Agenda includes proposals to require a ⅔ majority vote for any increased taxes and fees, as well as other bills to enhance operations and the delivery of services and programs to County residents.

“Last November, people across our country voted overwhelmingly in favor of increasing government efficiency. It is our responsibility as elected leaders to respond accordingly in the interests of every Albany County taxpayer. No matter your party, eliminating government inefficiency is something everyone should support. These proposals will not only help you keep more of your hard-earned money – they will help ensure our County Government is a leader in maximizing our potential to provide the best representation we can,” said Legislator Frank Mauriello (R-C, Colonie).

“Let’s face it: most governments these days need a DOGE. Though Albany County is just one of 62 counties in New York – and one of more than three thousand across America – we have a chance to do something that can serve as a lasting example to every one of our municipal neighbors. Economic freedom, opportunity and the ability to put people before politics are the cornerstones of any good government. Just like any well-run business, we have a responsibility to operate affordably, fairly and efficiently. I hope we can begin this dialogue with our colleagues across the aisle and enact meaningful change to make Albany County Government more effective for our constituents,” said Legislator Todd Drake (R-C, Latham).

The CORGI Agenda includes:

  • A resolution to require a ⅔ Majority for Any Increased Taxes and Fees (Introduced by Legislator Todd Drake)

  • A resolution to create a 48-Hour Notice of Agendas Rule and Enhanced Budget Reform (Introduced by Legislator Grimm)

  • A resolution to Consolidate and Reform County Legislative Committees (Introduced by Legislator Paul Burgdorf)

  • A resolution to place Minority Conference Representation on County Boards (Introduced by Legislator Mauriello)

  • A resolution to require Programmatic Information in Requests for Legislative Action and Codify existing practices (Introduced by Legislator Ryan Conway)

In the weeks and months ahead, members of the Conference will advocate for these common-sense proposals, and advance new ideas all aimed at making County Government more efficient.
