ALBANY COUNTY REPUBLICANS TO COUNTY EXECUTIVE: END THE MIGRANT CRISIS

With Migrant Crisis Set to Cost Local Taxpayers, Albany County GOP & Conservative Conference Calls on County Executive Dan McCoy to Slow the Flow

ALBANY, NY – Minority Leader Frank Mauriello, Deputy Minority Leader Paul Burgdorf, and the Albany County Republican and Conservative Conference in the County Legislature today sent a letter to County Executive Dan McCoy urging him to slow the flow of migrants from New York City to Albany County. Since Memorial Day weekend earlier this year, nearly 700 migrants have been relocated to Albany County from New York City.

“The sad reality is this entire humanitarian emergency has exposed a vacuum of leadership in our country, our state, and our county. Blaming DocGo is not a plan. The root cause is the federal government, but until we as elected officials can come up with a plan to address the fiscal impacts, social impacts, and legal impacts of this federal disaster in Albany County, we cannot take any more migrants from New York City,” wrote Minority Leader Mauriello, Deputy Minority Leader Burgdorf, and Members of the Republican and Conservative Conference.

Recently, Erie County and Schenectady County officials have said they will not accept any more migrants.

A Siena poll this week showed that 82 percent of New Yorkers believe the recent influx of migrants into our state is a serious problem, with 54 percent saying it’s “very serious.” In addition, the poll showed that 58 percent of New Yorkers feel we have already done enough and should now work to slow the flow, rather than accept new migrants.

The letter is attached.
