Albany County Republican & Conservative Conference Agenda

10/15/25

STATEMENT FROM ALBANY COUNTY LEGISLATOR FRANK MAURIELLO

On Proposed Albany County Executive Budget 2025

The County Executive's proposed budget includes increases of 6% - more than a $50 million increase. This budget, and its increased spending, will receive a top-to-bottom examination by the Republican and Conservative Conference of the Albany County Legislature.

The proposed budget will significantly dip into reserves to make ends meet. Additionally, the County Executive indicated that County expenditures at St. Rose might be double what was originally anticipated. Taken together, this budget is currently shrouded in uncertainty and will require a tough review of planned expenses and sources of revenue.

The County Executive is correct when he says our biggest impediment to long-term success and financial stability is the State Government, and especially its unfunded mandates on every County across New York.

Keeping costs down, improving public safety and addressing quality of life issues which are an impediment to economic development are the most important areas we should address in our final budget. I hope we can work in a bipartisan manner to enact a spending plan which achieves all of these objectives.
