ALBANY COUNTY GOP & CONSERVATIVE CONFERENCE THROWS SUPPORT BEHIND LILY WEI FOR COUNTY LEGISLATURE
ALBANY, NY – The Albany County Republican and Conservative Conference today advanced an amendment to name Lily Wei Albany County Legislator for the recently vacated District 14 (Loudonville/Menands/Watervliet). The measure, sponsored by Minority Leader Frank Mauriello (R-C, Colonie), was voted down along party lines 21-8 by the County Legislature, with the Democratic Majority naming another individual to the position.
“Having had the pleasure of getting to know Lily Wei, I can say with certainty that she is more than qualified to be an Albany County Legislator for Loudonville, Menands and Watervliet. Lily is a dedicated professional, wife and mother of two children. She is also a second-generation Chinese immigrant, which makes even her nomination a historic event for our Conference and the Legislature as a whole. Lily’s real-world experience in both the private sector and raising a family is exactly the type of perspective District 14 residents deserve in their County Legislator. While I am disappointed our amendment to name her one failed tonight, I am confident Lily will continue to play an integral role in her community and the local democratic process moving forward,” said Minority Leader Frank Mauriello.
Lily Wei has a rich background in industrial design, holding a Bachelor of Industrial Design degree from Carleton University in Canada. Her early career focused on the corporate marketing and design sector, where she worked on high-impact projects for tradeshows, events and interiors, garnering numerous industry accolades. In recent years, she transitioned to focus on her family as a devoted wife and mother, residing in Loudonville with her husband and two children.
Lily is a second-generation Chinese immigrant whose parents pursued their education and established roots in Canada. Lily volunteers at the Capital District Chinese Community Center, creating marketing materials to promote cultural exchange and enhance understanding through arts and community events. Lily is passionate about enhancing community safety and well-being, and direct representation of the voices and concerns of all residents in her community.
