Albany County Republican & Conservative Conference Agenda

The Albany County Republican and Conservative Conference recently highlighted achievements and proposals to Stand up for Businesses & Job Creation in Albany County. The latest installment in the “Sensible Solutions” Agenda for 2023 comes during National Small Business Week, and includes efforts to assist small businesses and job creators struggling under one of the least competitive regulatory climates in the country.

“As a small business owner in the Capital Region, I know firsthand the challenges that our job creators face on a daily basis. All elected officials have a responsibility to stand up for a better business climate in Albany County. These aren’t just the economic drivers on the Main Streets in our towns and villages – these are the mom-and-pop family businesses that make our communities what they are. We know for a fact that our neighbors will continue to support neighborhood businesses in our County. Now it’s up to government to do the same.” -County Legislator Todd Drake (R-C, Latham)

“I have worked for my family’s business for as long as I can remember. In that time, I’ve seen countless small businesses close up shop to head for greener pastures. Whether it’s high taxes, unfair mandates or overregulation, something in New York has got to change. Those doing business in Albany County deserve representatives who will fight for their economic future. My colleagues and I in the Republican and Conservative Conference will continue to proudly stand up for businesses and job creation in our County.” -County Legislator Zach Collins (C-R, Coeymans)

STANDING UP FOR BUSINESSES & JOB CREATION

The Albany County Republican and Conservative Conference will always stand up for small businesses and job creators in the Capital Region, because they are essential to economic vitality and growth in our region. Recently, our Conference members have supported:

  • Plug Power, which is a leader in the global market of green energy, and has headquarters and facilities in Latham and Slingerlands;

  • Crumbl Cookies, a small business bake shop that recently opened in Latham; and

  • Local Chambers of Commerce in Colonie and Guilderland, which recently celebrated their respective “Restaurant Weeks.”

Our Conference will continue to be a strong partner with businesses, Chambers of Commerce, and other business groups on important economic initiatives.

In addition, the Republican and Conservative Conference OPPOSES County-level laws or regulations that would make it harder for businesses to remain open and thriving. In recent years, we have opposed a wide variety of bad County proposals that would make it less attractive to do business in our County, including:

  • Unreasonable mandates on hotels that would require them to potentially refund every customer due to the inconvenience of nearby construction;

  • Unfair legal assistance practices against rental property owners; and

  • A requirement for residents conducting multiple yard sales to obtain a license.

Over the coming weeks and months, the Albany County Republican and Conservative Conference will continue to put forward the ‘Sensible Solutions’ Agenda for 2023, which includes plans to:
